Carl Reiner on the death of Garry Marshall - His ex-in-law & Colleague

On a Hollywood red carpet recently Gary Marshall says, "My mom has passed, but I remember trying to make her happy."

Marshall would often say it was his mom that gave him his sense of humor and comic legend Carl Reiner agrees. Marshall and Reiner were family for a while when son Rob and Marshall's sister, Penny, got married in Reiner's backyard. Later the two would work together on the Dick Van Dyke Show..

Says Reiner, "He was so vibrant and he was also a scion. He was a Godfather to so many people."

On shows like Happy Days, Mork and Mindy, Laverne & Shirley, and the Dick Van Dyke Show. Carl Reiner was in that! He says that working with Marshall "...was always fun. And, he was such a low key guy. You never knew that funny things were going to come out of his mouth."

And, then there was the movie "Pretty Woman". Marshall directed it. Reiner just watched it again two nights ago. Marshall liked working with Roberts. "I know her well," he says. "It is nice to work with somebody that you could talk shorthand and… understand."

The passing of Garry Marshall certainly saddens him, but with the help of a little humor, Reiner says while Marshall left his mark on the entertainment industry, "...he also left this earth which was the wrong thing to have done. The only mistake he ever made."

He died of complications from pneumonia. Marshall was 81.
