California takes steps to avoid shortage of legal marijuana

After marijuana became legal in Nevada, the state was hit with a crisis. They were running short on supplies of cannabis.

California is now taking steps to make sure that doesn't happen.

Nevada had to declare a state of emergency because of fears the entire marijuana industry would collapse.

State officials say that is unlikely when recreational marijuana sales begin in January. California has an oversupply of pot.

What about importing from other states?

Under federal law it is still illegal to transport marijuana across state lines.
