Burned woman's body found in Del Rey home where fire was reported

Firefighters sent to a home in the Del Rey area of Los Angeles on a report of a fire Monday found a woman's burned body in a bathtub, and a coroner's spokeswoman said her death was being
investigated as a suicide.

The firefighters went to the 11900 block of West Weir Street at 9:42 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"Firefighters made entry to find smoke and a deceased person inside the home in a room with fire damage, but no active flames," LAFD spokesman Nicholas Prange said in a statement.

LAPD Sgt. Mark Griego told reporters that the body, found in a bathtub, was that of a female and was burned.

She was identified by the coroner's office, which reported that she was 53 and her death was reported as a suicide.

The woman's cause of death was not immediately available.

Police told reporters at the scene that a note was found at the location.

No additional information has been released at this time.
