Body found at Huntington Beach is Temecula teen

A body that washed ashore in Huntington Beach on Thursday was identified Friday as 18-year-old Jessy Cook of Temecula, according to Orange County Coroner's officials.

Cook's body was found near Tower 7 at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Huntington Beach police Officer Angela Bennett said.

A multi-agency search for Cook -- initiated by the U.S. Coast Guard -- began about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday after some of her belongings reportedly were found on the Huntington Beach Pier.

The search was suspended about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

"The Coast Guard and partner agencies searched for approximately 11 hours, covering nearly 137 square nautical miles,'' according to a Coast Guard statement.

The search, using boats and at least one helicopter, included Huntington Beach lifeguards and personnel from the Huntington Beach Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Divers on what was described as a recovery operation were recalled after their search turned up no sign of the young woman.
