Baby girl dies after alleged assault in Lancaster; investigation underway

Sheriff's homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a female infant in Lancaster, who died Saturday at an area hospital from injuries inflicted during an alleged assault.

Authorities were notified of the incident in the 43000 block of Gadsden Avenue at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to Deputy Grace Medrano of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The child was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead today, Medrano said. There was no other immediate information.
