Authorities find nearly 2 tons of marijuana in boxes of cucumbers

Authorities found 3,100 pounds of marijuana hidden inside a shipment of cucumbers on Sunday in San Diego, an estimated street value of more than $1.5 million.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Otay Mesa cargo port of entry searched a tractor-trailer containing boxes with large, wrapped packages containing cucumbers.

The contents of the packages also field-tested positive for marijuana, officials said.

A total of 376 packages were seized from the tractor-trailer.

Over the weekend at ports of entry along the California border with Mexico, officers also intercepted 528 pounds of marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin valued at more than $2.5 million.
