Armed robber killed in La Mirada convenience store standoff

An armed robber was shot and killed Tuesday at the end of a 3-hour-long standoff with a sheriff's SWAT team at gas station convenience store in La Mirada.

No deputies were injured in the standoff, which began around 9:15 p.m. Monday at an am/pm convenience store at a 24-hour Arco gas station at 13550 S. Beach Boulevard, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported.

No employees or customers were reported to be inside the store during the standoff, said Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Sheriff's Information Bureau. A crisis negotiation team was at the scene.

The standoff ended around 12:25 a.m., when the suspect was shot and pronounced dead at the scene, Moody said.

He did not say what prompted deputies to fire on the man, but a news videographer reported from the scene that the suspect shot at authorities.

The shooting will be investigated by the sheriff's homicide and internal affairs bureau and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.
