Animals rescued in early morning pet store fire

A small fire broke out early Tuesday morning in a pet store in unincorporated Lennox.

The fire was reported at 2:31 a.m. in the 4400 block of Lennox Boulevard, and firefighters knocked down the blaze in about 30 minutes, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported.

No people were hurt in the fire but the status of the animals inside was not immediately known, the fire department said.

Firefighters were evacuating animals, Animal Control officers and the pet store owner were on the scene to assist.

The of the fire was under investigation, and damages were being tallied.
