A Wednesday's Child thank you to foster and adoptive parents

During this time of thanks and giving, Wednesday's Child would like to send our gratitude to the foster care and adoption community, especially the many foster and adoptive families.

We'd like to tell you about one very special family.

On November 14th, on behalf of Wednesday's Child, Fox 11's Christine Devine accepted the ICAN Angelo Award. Since 1995 Fox 11 has showcased children in foster care in need of adoptive homes, resulting in more than 500 adoptions.

The Angelo Award honors the memory of Angelo De Jesus. Angelo was adopted by Nishmeth De Jesus, a former foster youth herself. Angelo had a rare blood disorder and needed a bone marrow transplant.

With no match being found he succumbed to the illness.

We're thankful this Thanksgiving for people like Nishmeth who set the example of valuing the dignity and worth of people, especially a child with a life threatening illness and made it all about the child.

This holiday season, consider also giving the gift of life through bone marrow matching.

November is National Adoption Month. ICAN stands for Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect. Deanne Tilton Durfee is the Executive Director. Actress Lindsay Wagner(Bionic Woman) is the Chairperson of ICAN Associates.
