VENTURA (FOX 11) - A 14-year-old boy on his bike was killed early Friday after being stuck by two hit-and-run drivers in Ventura, police said.
Jonathan Hernandez was riding his bike after midnight when he was hit by a white tow truck with a flatbed near the intersection of Telegraph Road and Saticoy Avenue, the Ventura Police Department said.
A short time later, a second vehicle described as a silver or light-colored SUV ran over the teen as he was lying in the road, according to police.
Neither driver stopped.
On Saturday, friends gathered at a growing memorial near where Hernandez was killed. They said the teen was struggling with the loss of his sister who died of Leukemia a few months ago.
Thursday would have been her 18th birthday -- and loved ones said Hernandez went on a bike ride to clear his mind.
His family is hoping both drivers will do the right thing and turn themselves in.
In addition, the Ventura Police Department is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information about the identity of the drivers that leads to an arrest.
Those with information were asked to call the department's traffic unit at (805) 339-4323. Anonymous calls can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-TIPS.
