(FOX 11) - Mexican prosecutors want to talk with a telenovela actress linked to a Mexican drug lord.
Kate del Castillo was the one helped set up Sean Penn's interview with "El Chapo."
The actress was reportedly set to talk with investigators Monday at the Mexican consulate in Los Angeles, but that didn't happen.
Castillo was a no-show at the Mexican consulate, but now we’re learning that she has two more possible dates she can appear and that it might not be in Los Angeles.
And, though she didn’t show up, that didn’t stop supporters like Carlos Hernandez and his friends from turning out. The group danced to music and held signs that read "Kate te Apoyamos" meaning "Kate we support you."
"I think she is innocent. Kate del Castillo is the Mexican people. The people love you," Hernandez said.
"I came here today to seek Kate del Castillo. She's beautiful," Rogellio Cortero said.
The telenovela actress arranged Sean Penn’s interview with the Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Mexican investigators say she’s at the center of a money laundering probe.
TMZ questioned her over the weekend as she walked into a restaurant with friend and radio host Jillian Barberie.
"Do you agree with Sean Penn, that the article was a failure?" the TMZ reporter called out.
"Ya know what, I can not talk about him," del Castillo said.
Mexico’s Attorney General says there are indications the actress may have used money from El Chapo to help finance her tequila business.
She responded through Univision saying:
"I have no reason to give explanations to the press. If i don’t talk it’s because my lawyers told me not to because the government wants to destroy me.”
Her supporters agree.
"They're using here," Miguel Lopez said.
"I think it's political," Carlos Hernadez said.
"They're angry, the government," Rogellio Cortero said.
The Mexican government says she’ll have two other days to go to a consulate to testify. It could be as soon as Wednesday and may take place at the consulate in Miami.
