710 freeway southbound in Long Beach closed due to multi big rig crash

The southbound lanes of the Long Beach (710) Freeway were closed at the San Diego (405) Freeway Wednesday morning because of a vehicle collision that involved several big rigs and left one person critically injured, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The accident was reported around 12:30 a.m. and involved at least three big rigs, CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said. Two trapped motorists were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals. One of them is in critical condition,
Villalobos said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

All lanes are expected to remain close until at least 7 a.m., according to the CHP.
