Man killed while trying to intervene in liquor store robbery

- One man was shot and killed and another was wounded during a robbery at a liquor store in Paramount Monday.

Deputies were called just before 4 p.m. to the 8000 block of Somerset Boulevard, Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Sheriff's Information Bureau said.

The man who was killed was 45 years old. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was taken to a hospital, although an update on his condition was not immediately available, Navarro-Suarez said.

The shooting took place at Tequila Ranch Liquor & Beer near the corner of Somerset and Paramount boulevards.

Investigators told reporters at the scene that the man who was killed tried to intervene as an employee struggled with two male suspects, only to be shot, along with the employee, by a third male suspect who had been in an
apparent getaway vehicle parked in an alley.

The shooting suspect was described as a male 17-to-20 years old, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, with a scar or tattoo on his left check, Deputy Mike Barazza said. The other suspects were also males 17-to-20 years old.

They were seen leaving the store in a white compact vehicle with tinted windows, Barazza said.
