Family dog saved by firefighters as fire destroys home

- Firefighters extinguished a stubborn fire this morning, but not before it destroyed a home in South Los Angeles.

The blaze inside a two-story house at 1050 W. 46th St. was reported at 7:13 a.m., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

The flames quickly engulfed the 1,410-square-foot home and caused the roof to collapse.  The family was not residing there at the time of the inferno, but firefighters saved the family dog, according to authorities and reports from the scene.

Sixty-three fighters battled the fire from the ground and from a nearby residential roof and knocked down the flames in 31 minutes, according to Humphrey.

No injuries were reported, but the house was destroyed. The cause of the fire was under investigation, Humphrey said.
