30,000 expected at 4th of July block party in downtown L.A

More than 30,000 people are expected to attend the 5th annual 4th of July block party at Grand Park in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday night.

It's a family oriented, free event that will take up nearly eight city blocks, and will end with a fireworks show at 9pm which will use 3,620 fireworks.

More than 40 gourmet food trucks will be on hand, and there will be two stages set up to feature the sounds of American music, including jazz, funk, blues, and classical artists as well as DJ sets.

Security will be tight with more than 600 security and law enforcement officers on hand.

Alcohol will not be allowed, bags will be searched, and any water bottles must be empty if brought in.

FOX 11 caught up with some people who showed up early, and are excited for what the night will bring.

"Oh my God, this is my actual favorite holiday in the universe," Gena Poldnev said. "I'm excited for the fireworks, I wanna try to find some hot boys and just have fun and meeting new people, make friends."

Others were excited about the variety of food options.

Monica Sanchez tried a vegan food truck for the first time.

"I just learned about jack fruit, which tastes like carnitas, and the chips and the beans and all the healthy stuff, doesn't taste healthy, it's super good," Sanchez said.

There is also a kids area on hand which features soccer, themed tag, and parachute play as well as free games, face painting, and video games.
