Event planner accused of scam involving weddings and quinceañeras in SoCal

- Anaheim police said on Wednesday they were looking for more victims involving an event planner who runs a scam involving weddings and quinceaneras.

Byron Vinicio Sanchez, who also goes by Byron Vinicio Sanchez Alonzo, pleaded guilty July 12 to three misdemeanor counts each of fraud and grand theft involving three victims, according to court records. He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 2.

The defendant accepted a plea deal from an Orange County Superior Court judge, said Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

Sanchez is expected to face additional charges as the investigation continues, Wyatt said. Police now believe there are multiple other victims in Los Angeles and Orange counties, Wyatt said.

Several families last fall called police to report they paid between $6,000 and $15,000 to Sanchez who they say defrauded them out of "substantial sums of money,'' Wyatt said.

Sanchez would sign contracts with the victims but fail to deliver the services, Wyatt said.

Anyone who believes they are a victim was asked to call Orange County Crime Stoppers, which accepts anonymous tips, at (855) TIP-OCCS.
