Family of teen killed by undocumented immigrant in 2008 supports Trump

- The family of Jamiel Shaw, a 17-year-old who was fatally shot in 2008, is supporting Donald Trump's proposed plan to defund sanctuary cities and to deport undocumented immigrants.

Shaw was gunned down by an undocumented immigrant in 2008 while returning from the mall. Pedro Espinoza, a known gang member, mistook Shaw for a rival gang member, according to police. Espinoza was sentenced to death for Shaw's murder in 2012.

Shaw's father spoke out in support of Trump at the Republican National Convention and we spoke to him today about his support for the president-elect's proposed immigration policy.

Meanwhile this week, LA police chief Charlie Beck  said his department will not actively help federal officials apprehend immigrants who are in the country illegally and who are low-level offenders.

He says the department will still cooperate with federal officials if an immigrant in custody has committed a serious violent crime. Beck says that as a local law enforcement agency, the LAPD's primary goal is to ensure the safety of Angelenos which depends on officers being trusted by the immigrant community.

The LAPD would not comment on this story.
