Police seek the public's help to find 21-year-old man suspected of killing teenage boy

- “Matt you know I love you, you know in your heart this was not an intended thing, you know how sorry you are,” mother, Lydia Granados, pleaded with her son 21-year-old, Mathew Granados, to turn himself into police after he was named the suspect in the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy on Sunday night.

The teen, who has been identified by friends at 16-year-old Alex Ramirez, spent a lot of time at the Granados family home on the 3600 block of Hazard Avenue in Santa Ana according to the suspect’s mother.

“He didn’t come here to just be friends, he came here to be a part of somewhere that he felt accepted and acknowledged,” Granados said.

But the people the boy considered friends, may have also been involved in covering up what happened, according to police.

The shooting was first reported as a drive-by - but evidence at the scene led investigators to believe something else happened.

Police said, after the shooting the suspect’s mother drove him away from the scene and his father 41-Alexander Granados was arrested for accessory to the crime.

“He was part of telling the arriving officers that this was a drive by shooting and the suspects had fled, when in fact it occurred in their residence,” Anthony Bertagna, Santa Ana Police, said.

As police search for their suspect, friends of the victim are remembering him as a happy teen, who loved skateboarding.

“It’s just sad knowing the talent that he had skateboarding, the passion that he had for it and just to be taken from us like that it’s just I’m speechless,” David Dorado, victim’s friend, said.

The suspect’s mother said the shooting was an accident and she’s pleading with her son to do the right thing.

“I’d like for him to come to me, I’d like for him to come here, I would like him to be where he feels safe enough and we’ll walk in together,” Granados said.

Police said investigators recovered the gun they think was used in the shooting, but Granados has access to other weapons and should be considered armed and dangerous.
