2-year-old girl found dead in Fontana; mother and grandfather arrested on child abuse charges

A 2-year-old girl was found dead Monday night at a home in Fontana, and the toddler's mother and step-grandfather were arrested in connection to her death, authorities said.

Emergency crews were called at about 9:15 p.m. to the 16700 block of Slover Avenue on a report of the child not breathing. Upon arrival, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the investigation revealed significant evidence of neglect and child abuse, which is believed to have contributed to the little girl's death.

The child's mother, 20-year-old Cheyenne Cobb, and step-father Jon Palechek, 47, were arrested on felony child abuse causing death. Both suspects were booked into West Valley Detention Center.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information was encouraged to contact the Fontana Police Department at (909) 350-7740.
