2 people hospitalized, 2 dogs killed in Compton house fire

Two people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation Monday after a house fire in unincorporated East Compton that also killed two dogs, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 12:45 a.m. in the 16000 block of Essey Avenue, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Miguel Ornelas.

Firefighters on the scene described heavy smoke and fire, Ornelas said. They reported the flames were out at 12:58 a.m.

The two smoke inhalation patients were taken to a trauma center, he said.
