2 killed, 1 injured in shooting at liquor store in South LA

A father waited to learn if his son was among the dead Thursday at a liquor store shooting that claimed two lives in South Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said a black truck parked at a liquor store was the target of the shooting. A group of men in the truck were ambushed by two gunmen around 6 p.m.

The shooting happened at Eddie Jrs liquor store on 108th Street and Western Avenue.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said four men sitting in a black truck were shot at, two of them killed. A third man was taken to the hospital with a gun shot wound to the head and a fourth walked away unharmed.

Fred Lewis came to the scene to find out if one of those men is his son.

"My sister called me and my wife called me, everybody called me to tell me that my son's been killed," said Lewis.

Lewis said his 21-year-old son, Jeremiah, recently moved to the area near the liquor store. Lewis and his family waited with a picture of his son on hand while detectives worked to confirm who was killed.

"I'm just praying to God that it's not him," said Lewis.

Investigators tell FOX 11 they are working quickly and carefully to identify the victims.

"It worries a lot of people if they don't know if it's their loved or not," said Lt. Steve Jauch of the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. "I really try to stay as vague as possible until we can notify those families because as you can imagine, a lot of people will form an opinion that it's their loved one when it's not."

The two gunmen fled in a car, but the sheriff's department doesn't have a description of the car because it was parked in an alley.
