2 dead, 1 missing in Diamond Bar house fire

DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (FOX 11) - L.A. County Sheriffs investigators continue to look for the son of an elderly couple who own a home that burned in Diamond Bar Friday morning.

"It looks like some sort of accelerant like gasoline was used to start the house fire," said a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Department.

Investigators confirm two died in the house fire, but couldn't confirm the two were the elderly couple. The couple lived at home with their adult son. As of Friday afternoon, investigators were still looking for the son, while officially announcing that they were treating the incident as a homicide.

"I just woke up to the commotion," said Katrina Stanley, who lives across the street from the couple. "The rumbling of the trucks up the street and the lights reflecting in your house," she paused. "I could see flames coming out from the second floor."

Fire fighters say they found both bodies, along with a dog in one bedroom. The couple who own the home are well known in the community and are regulars at the church down the street.

"I'm devastated," said Mandy Clark, who goes to church with the couple. "She taught my son in church. She's a great woman, a woman of God. Her and him have brought very great values to me in my life."

Investigators say the couple's son has mental problems. Neighbors say they've seen him walking and yelling in the streets.

"You can see him walking down the street once in a while flailing his hands around," Stanley said. "Something was bothering him. Often times, he would keep to himself, but times, he would be yelling to himself."
