2 children injured, 1 critically, after mom suspected of DUI crashes in school parking lot

Authorities suspect that a mother was driving under the influence when she crashed her vehicle in the parking lot after picking two children up from school, deputies said.

According to the Lancaster Sheriff's Department, the 31-year-old woman had just picked up her 12-year-old daughter and another 6-year-old child when she crashed her vehicle into a light pole in the parking lot. The crash took place around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday night in the 45000 block of 30th Street E in Lancaster.

The woman and both children were transported to area hospitals for their injuries.

The sheriff's department said that the woman and her 13-year-old daughter are in stable condition at Northridge Hospital. The 8-year-old is in critical condition at Antelope Valley Hospital, deputies said.

Investigators believe that the woman had just picked up the children from Cole Middle School, and was exiting through the driveway of the East Union School District when for an unknown reason she lost control and slammed into a light pole in the driveway.

The sheriff's department said that the woman, whose name has not been released at this time, is suspected of DUI and will likely face charges.
