2 brothers arrested on suspicion of killing missing Moreno Valley teen Aranda Briones

- Authorities have arrested two brothers in connection to the suspected murder of a 16-year-old Moreno Valley girl who went missing last month.

Gary Anthony Shover, 21, and Owen Skyler Shover, 18, have been arrested and charged in the death of Aranda Briones. They were arrested in Hesperia on Monday night after a SWAT team severed a search warrant at their home in the 16200 block of Grevillea Street.

During a press conference on Tuesday night, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said that the evidence they discovered in the brothers' backyard led investigators to believe that Briones was a victim of a homicide. According to investigators, Briones was last seen by friends and family on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019. Authorities said she never returned home after a night out with some friends. Investigators say that early on in the investigation, they learned that Briones was last seen with Owen, who the sheriff says was a high school friend of hers. To date, her body has not been recovered.

The case was initially referred to Moreno Valley Investigators who began an exhaustive search for her. In the days that followed, the Moreno Valley Police Department obtained the assistance of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Bureau and the FBI. Based on circumstances learned during the investigation, the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit assumed the case.

Owen faces a charge of second-degree murder. His brother Gary has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder. They both remained in police custody on Tuesday night. It’s unclear whether they have attorneys.

The Moreno Valley Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Central Homicide Investigator Dickey at 951-955-2777, or Moreno Valley Police Department Investigator Drexler at 951-486-6700.
