'Bluecut' wildfire destroys iconic Summit Inn along Route 66

- The fast-moving ‘Bluecut’ wildfire destroys an iconic pit stop in the Cajon Pass. The historic Summit Inn restaurant at the top of the pass went up in flames Tuesday afternoon.

The high desert landmark served locals, Historic Route 66 and interstate travelers since 1952.

The employees were told to evacuate at around 3:00pm Tuesday afternoon…in less than five hours later -- it was gone.

Famous celebrities known to have visited the Summit Inn including Elvis Presley, Pierce Brosnan and Clint Eastwood .

Back in 2014, a drunk driver crashed into the restaurant's kitchen, causing an estimated $50,000 worth of damage, local news media sources reported.

The inn was recently sold to a Wrightwood-based family which had plans to renovate the inn to its original glory and to make it a 24 hours-a-day - 7 days a week business.
