8 people injured, 4 critical, in West LA crash

- Eight people were injured Sunday, four of them critically, in a two-vehicle collision involving pedestrians in the Sawtelle section of West Los Angeles, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 2 p.m. in the 11200 block of West Santa Monica Boulevard, Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Two of the patients were pedestrians struck by one of the SUVs involved in the crash. One of the pedestrians, a 27-year-old woman, was in critical condition, Stewart said.

The others who suffered critical injuries were two men, ages 27 and 30, and a 30-year-old woman, Stewart said.

Three children -- ages 3, 6 and 8 -- were in good to fair condition, as was a 33-year-old man, Stewart said.

All eight patients were taken to a hospital. One of them had been trapped in the wreckage, Stewart said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation by Los Angeles police.
