Discovery of human remains found in Ladera Heights

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives responded to the 5900 block of Wooster Avenue, unincorporated Los Angeles to investigate the discovery of human remains.

Homicide detectives have learned on Thursday, June 30, 2016 the home owner of the residence was having some construction done inside the home, when a construction worker, who was doing an inspection in the foundation of the house, found two large bones that appeared to be human. He notified the home owner who contacted Marina Del Rey Station personnel this morning.

Marina Del Rey Station deputies responded to the residence, retrieved the two bones and transported them to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner – Coroner’s Office. Coroner’s Office officials and personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crime Lab examined the two large bones and determined the bones were a human femur and tibia.

Homicide detectives and members of the Coroner’s Office Special Operations Response Team, inspected the area beneath the house this afternoon for any additional human remains and met with negative results.

At this time it is unknown how long the human remains have been at the residence.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner – Coroner’s Office will work with Homicide detectives towards identifying the victim.

The investigation is on-going and there is no additional information available at this time.
