Bobcat cub rescued after getting separated from mom

- A bobcat cub that was separated from its mom was rescued in Riverside thanks to some quick-thinking women.

Winda Bosquez and Amber LaFortune said they saw two tiny cubs along the Santa Ana River bike trail near Fairmont Park. The two tiny cubs were on the opposite side of a tall fence, and their very stressed looking mother was on the other side.

The women picked up one of the cubs and squeezed him through the fence to the mother, who picked him up gently and ran off. The women expected the mother to come back for the other one, but when she didn’t, and a couple of large crows started swooping over the other cub, they picked the furry orphan up, and put it in a backpack and called the Riverside County Department of Animal Services.

Riverside Services Officer Lorena Barron-Lopez responded and said the cub looked to be about 3 months old and in good condition.

Fish and Wildlife will now take over and find a place to foster the cub.
