Los Angeles, CA (FOX11) - We’ve been hearing about Google and their roll out of super fast, Gigabit internet but what do you do if you’re not on the list of cities that’s rolling out to? Now you can get over your severe jealousy and hop on the AT&T Gigapower high speed train. They’ve announced their new Gigabit service and it’s launching right here in Los Angeles and some surrounding communities.
AT&T Gigapower was initially announced, along with availability in the Los Angeles area, in December of last year. Now they’ve rolled out service to single family homes, apartments and small businesses in parts of Eastvale, Irvine, Los Angeles, Orange Country and surrounding communities. "High-speed Internet has become as essential of a utility as water, power and gas, for education, economic development, entertainment and day to day life in Los Angeles," said Councilmember Bob Blumenfield. Blumenfield who has been a leader in the City's efforts to expand Internet service. "I'm very happy to see this expanded ATT service to help support job growth in small business and provide fast connections for families and students at home."
All of that speed and internetty awesomeness does come at a cost though. AT&T GigaPower Internet Premier offers Internet speeds up to 1Gbps for as low as $110 a month or speeds up to 300Mbps for as low as $80 a month. The “as low as” portion of that boils down to the cost without adding TV or phone services to your bundle. For example, if you add TV and voice using their “Triple Play” bundle you’re looking at $180 per month for a 1-year term.
You’ll definitely want to hit their coverage map as the areas actually getting service right now look fairly sparse. You’ll have to enter your zip code to see if you’re getting service, and if you’re lucky –and can afford it – you’ll be on that super speed train to enjoying all the web has to offer without buffering or lag. If you’re already getting service in your area and are a subscriber, let us know how it’s working for you. We’d love to hear about it!
