(FOX 11) - The AK-47 Bandit is wanted in connection with a series of bank robberies in which he uses an AK-47 assault rifle with a magazine capable of holding 100 bullets.

Investigators say the AK-47 Bandit has robbed at least five banks since Feb. 2012 when he shot a police officer outside a bank in Chino. The officer survived.

Since then, the AK-47 Bandit has held up banks in Sacramento; Vacaville; North Bend, Washington and Rexburg, Idaho.

The gunman is described as 25 to 40-years-old, 5 feet, 9 inches to 6 feet tall with a stocky build, weighing between 180 and 230 pounds. He has light colored eyes.

He always wears a ski mask. Sometimes he wears blue body armor or a green mesh vest with "Sheriff" on the back.

In the California robberies, the man drove a dark gray 4-door car with dark tinted windows and stock chrome wheels. In the North Bend, Washington robbery he drove a reddish-orange Jeep Liberty or Patriot with a spare tire mounted on the back. The license plate had a blue stripe across the top.

There is a substantial reward for the robber.

Anyone with information about him is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-TIPS.
