LA's Most Wanted: 2011 Slaying Of El Monte Woman

(FOX 11) The unsolved murder of Marlene Estrada continues to weigh heavily on the hearts of her family and on the minds of homicide investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Marlene was 31-years-old and she sometimes had difficulty coping with the challenges in her life.

On the Saturday night following Thanksgiving 2011, a security camera showed Marlene shopping at a liquor store near the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Lower Azusa Road in El Monte. Later that night, people residing in the area reported hearing gunshots.

The next morning, a man walking along the banks of the Rio Hondo wash discovered Marlene's body in the waterway. The wash is very close to the store where Marlene was seen the night before. Investigators believe that Marlene may have been murdered by someone she knew.

Detective Steve Blagg, assigned to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau, is handling the investigation. A name or a seemingly insignificant piece of information could be all he needs to solve the murder of Marlene Estrada. Detective Blagg's number is (323) 890-5500.

Anyone wishing to help anonymously can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
