LAPD: Woman Posing As Event Planner Targeting LA-Area Party Stores With Fake Checks

(FOX 11) The Los Angeles Police Department's Grand Theft Division is investigating after three Moroccan party stores had thousands of dollars worth of supplies stolen from by the same female suspect.

Store owners say the woman gave a fake name and paid with fraudulent checks.

The owner of Badia Design in North Hollywood says the woman stole $13,000 worth of centerpieces from his store in February. Since then, police believe she has hit two other places -- Mosaik in LA and Moroccan Party Rentals in Van Nuys.

Surveillance photos captured at Mosaik show the woman and a man she says is her husband inside the store.

Owners say she posed as an event planner needing decorations for a wedding, and then paid the rental fee with a fake check.

The suspect's latest victim is Nelly Bouzaglou from Moroccan Party Rentals.

She says a woman scheduled a last minute appointment to rent $4,000 worth in supplies including candelabra centerpieces and a Moroccan carriage.

She says the woman seemed normal at first, but began acting strange when she started to ask more questions.

Bouzaglou says she went to the bank to cash the check right after the woman left and found out the account was closed.

If you have seen the woman in the surveillance photos or have any information contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
