Father of Marine receives chilling note on car regarding son's service

Deltona father Lewis Alexander and his wife proudly sport stickers on their cars supporting their son's service as a U.S. Marine currently serving overseas. One of them reads, "Proud parent of a U.S. Marine."

"He wanted to make a difference in the world, and this was his choice," said mother Tami Alexander.

Alexander was in disbelief Friday morning when he found an obscene note directed toward himself and his son on his car parked at a store. The note contained an expletive and read, "I hope he dies." "I got back in my car, and I was about to put it in reverse, and then I looked at the note again, and it really hit me that 'Wow, this person is evil!" Alexander said.

Alexander said he was so upset that he was brought to tears and called the Volusia County Sheriff's Office to report the incident. "My son's serving to protect that person's right to do that, and it really hit me, so I called the sheriff's department. I was crying," Alexander said.

A spokesman with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said no crime was actually committed, but they posted the note on their Facebook page to condemn the hateful message, using it as an opportunity to say "thank you" to those who are serving our country.

Part of the post read, "Our families are veteran families, too. We can't put a note on every windshield, but we can say it here: We respect you, we support you, and we're here for you at home."

Meanwhile, Alexander has message to whoever left the nasty note on his car. "If I could leave a note on his car it would probably say God Bless you," said Alexander.
