Family Identifies Man Killed In Hawaiian Gardens Deputy-Involved Shooting

HAWAIIAN GARDENS (CNS/FOX 11) - A prowler call in Hawaiian Gardens led a deputy to fatally wound a man, sheriff's officials said Monday.

Deputies responded to the prowler call at about 9:40 p.m. in the 12200 block of 216th Street, Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Sheriff's Information Bureau
said.

"The informant in the call stated that a man was knocking on their door trying to get into their house,'' Moody said. During a search, "one of the deputies came across the suspect in the backyard of the residence and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.''

The suspect was wounded in the upper body and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, he said.

"A weapon has not been located,'' Moody said.

Sheriff's homicide detectives have launched an investigation, he said.
