Driver Killed In Fiery Crash Along 118 Freeway In Granada Hills

GRANADA HILLS (CNS/FOX 11) - A 29-year-old motorist was killed and an 18-year-old motorist suffered minor injuries Sunday in Granada Hills in a two-vehicle fiery crash on the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway, which also ignited a small brush fire.

The crash on the eastbound side of the freeway just east of Encino Avenue occurred at 3:16 a.m when an eastbound Audi rear ended a 2003 Toyota, according to a California Highway Patrol news statement.

Following the impact, the Toyota came to a rest on the right shoulder, as the Audi traveled up the southbound embankment about 20 feet and caught fire, according to the news statement.

The driver of the Audi, a resident of North Hollywood, died at the scene, according to the statement. The motorist in the Toyota, a resident of North Hills, suffered minor injuries.

CHP Officer Alex Rubio said the crash ignited a small brush fire.

The name of the motorist who died will be released pending notification of next of kin, according to the Coroner's Office.
