Detectives at the LAPD's West Traffic Bureau will look into who was driving the brand new Audi, with no license plate, in reverse down Laurel Canyon Boulevard, a police officer said.

"There's no driver identification. West Traffic is aware of the situation,'' said Los Angeles police officer Drake Madison of the Media Relation Section. "It's (the investigation) going to be on what's on the tape."

Cellphone video from about 4:45 p.m. Thursday shows an Audi starting on Mulholland Drive, then driving backwards for more than two miles south down Laurel Canyon Boulevard toward Sunset Boulevard, news outlets reported. At one point the car appears to almost hit a pedestrian.

That road is a narrow, winding canyon route with one lane in each direction. There are several intersections, three traffic signals, and heavy
traffic in the video.

Kevin Zanazanian recorded the video on his cellphone, and told a Los Angeles media outlet that there were two people in the car -- a man behind the wheel and a woman in the passenger seat.

As the car approached Hollywood Boulevard, still in reverse, the motorist maneuvered around other cars and into the left turn lane.

Since the Audi had dealer plates, police plan to contact the dealership to track down the driver, news outlets reported.
