The incident began about 1:50 a.m., when police chased a gold Chevrolet SUV whose female driver had committed traffic violations, said Fullerton police Sgt. Katherine Hamel.

After a short time, the vehicle stopped and a man got out of the passenger seat and began running and firing at officers, who fired back, Hamel said. No one was hit by the gunfire.

Officers set up a perimeter near Williamson Avenue and Euclid Street, with help from Anaheim and Buena Park police officers and an Orange County sheriff's helicopter crew, Hamel said.

During the search, police detained a man in the 600 block of Williamson Avenue and found a holster, Hamel said. A K9 team from the La Habra Police Department assisted in the search.
