Mother Accused Of Killing 8-Month-Old Son, Hiding Remains In Storage Facility

(FOX 11) A woman was arrested Saturday on suspicion of killing her 8-month-old son, whose remains were found in a storage facility in Bloomington and likely died a year ago, the sheriff's department said.

The baby boy's remains were discovered Thursday at a business in the 10100 block of Linden Avenue. Detectives determined that 31-year-old Maria Torres was the mother of the child, authorities said.

The baby likely died more than a year prior to his body being found, according to a sheriff's department press release.

Torres allegedly hid the child's remains from family and friends. She is also under investigation for fraudulently obtaining money from a local church and community members for the child's burial, authorities said.

Due to an ongoing investigation, the cause of death was not released.

Torres was booked at West Valley Detention Center, where she was being held without bail, authorities said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Detective Scott Thies or Sgt. Trevis Newport at (909) 387-3589 or the anonymous We-tip line at 1 (800) 78-CRIME or on www.wetip.com.
