Man With A Gun Killed In Officer Involved Shooting

(FOX 11 / CNS) A gun was recovered at the scene of a fatal officer-involved shooting in Boyle Heights, it was reported today.

The weapon was found near the suspect, a 35-year old man who police were pursuing in connection with a fatal shooting minutes earlier and a blockaway, news media outlets reported.

The officer-involved shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m.near the intersection of Third Street and South Matthews Street, LAPD Officer Nuria Vanegas said. The suspect was being sought for the fatal shooting of a man at the intersection of Fourth and South Soto streets around 10:25 p.m., Vanegas said.

Police said officers at the scene heard gunshots and saw the victim fall. Police had been pursuing the suspect just before the shooting, LAPD Officer Nuria Vanegas said. "The suspect was running in the area and they went after him,'' Vanegas said. There was no information about the circumstances of the initial fatal shooting.

No LAPD officers were hurt, LAPD Officer Jane Kim said.
