Pregnant Woman In Critical Condition After Shooting At LA Park

(FOX 11 / CNS) A pregnant woman shot multiple times at a park in the Pico-Union district was in critical but stable condition Monday following surgery, and her fetus was unharmed, police said.

The shooting occurred at Toberman Playground Park at 17th and Toberman streets around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Herb Chang of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Station.

The woman, who is about 25 years old and six or seven months pregnant, was on the basketball courts when a man, acting "without warning ... shot her several times'' in the upper body, Chang said.

The victim, whose name was withheld, was transported to a hospital for surgery, and was listed in critical but stable condition, said LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera. The unborn baby was not injured, Herrera said.

The suspect, who remained at large today, was described as an Hispanic male who was wearing a blue cap, white T-shirt and blue shorts.

A motive for the crime was unknown, police said.
