Police: Long Beach Teen Stabbed To Death On Way Home From School

LONG BEACH (CNS/FOX 11) - An 18-year-old man was in custody Friday on suspicion of stabbing to death a 15-year-old boy who was on his way home from school in Long Beach.

Police say Keshawn Brooks was fatally stabbed by 18-year-old Giovanny Montelongo as he tried to snatch his backpack around 3:25 p.m. Thursday.

The attack occurred in the 2800 block of Santa Fe Avenue as Brooks walked home from Cabrillo High School, a Long Beach Police Department statement said.

Montelongo was arrested at a residence in the 1700 block of West Columbia Street later Thursday.

Keeyon Layton, Brooks' father, said his son was an innocent victim.

"My son was not a gang member,'' Layton said Thursday night. "This was murder ... and he didn't deserve this.''
