Thieves Steal Students' Band Instruments In Pasadena

(FOX 11) Thieves broke into the Marshall Fundamental School Band Room Saturday and stole approximately $10,000 worth of musical instruments and equipment, music teacher Joel Lopez said.

What's worse -- the Mighty Eagle band was set to perform at the Pasadena Unified All District Music Festival on Friday night and at Disney California Adventure Park on Saturday.

Lopez told parents in an email that he trying "to find rentals, or borrowing instruments from other schools so that students are not left out of this opportunity."

The suspects took a sound system that was made possible through a Pasadena Educational Foundation grant. Lopez said most of the flutes were stolen, as well as a few trumpets, trombones and saxophones.

In addition, several guitar and bass amps were taken -- some of them belonging to students.

None of the instruments in the band room's storage lockers were taken, Lopez said.

"The music program needs more individual storage lockers to ensure safety for all instruments both private and school-owned," Lopez said in an email to parents. "I hope that we can all contribute to the purchase of these storage lockers. I will do my best to find grants and other fundraising needs to purchase new lockers and would ask you to join me."

A police report was filed after the suspects were reportedly visible on school surveillance video. Some of the instruments were located and turned into police Friday evening, but no arrests have been made.

A GoFundMe page was set up for those interested in making a donation.
