The murder of Carlos Martinez might be the most senseless act of violence any of us will ever see.
Martinez and a friend were driving home from work just before midnight on Nov. 19, 2002 when a black Mercedes Benz pulled up next to them and fired one shot that hit him in the chest. It happened on Wilshire Boulevard at Sycamore Avenue, just east of La Brea.
It appears the motive for the murder was to make the killer "feel good about himself," according to police.
When Martinez was killed, he left behind his girlfriend and unborn son.
