Last April, West Hollywood resident Joseph Harris says a man named Donnel Nelson was convicted of stealing Harris' dog Freddie from a local grocery store. Harris says when he offered a $2000 reward Nelson (who was seen in surveillance video taking the dog) came to collect the money. He was arrested and sentenced to community service.
Now, there are people in who live in the area between La Cienega and Crescent Heights... north of Fountain, who are suspicious of Nelson because they've seen him with in the neighborhood with different dogs...
Hank Scott is the publisher of WEHOville News. He broke the story and says "what's going on is that Nelson has been seen with strange dogs and a variety of dogs. So, the suspicion is he has stolen them. The problem we're having around here is that the Sheriffs Department has been very cooperative, but until someone files a complaint they can't arrest him.
In other words, no new crime has been committed. But, just hearing dogs might be at risk has neighbors scratching their heads. Tara Redfield says "That is insane. You have to be so desperate to steal peoples dogs to get reward money. I think that's bizarre."
Meanwhile, Michael Zimmerman says he'll protect his dog even more carefully. Already, he says, he tries... "If I go to the supermarket I would never leave her in the car alone or outside even tied up."
