Dinner Out At Phorage In Palms

This week for Dinner Out, we head to Phorage in the Palms area of Los Angeles. Charles Koole posted on our Facebook page that it's the best modern Vietnamese on the Westside.

Chef Perry Cheung purposely designed a limited menu. He wanted to serve the most popular Vietnamese dishes, then make them with quality, locally sourced produce and sustainable meats. For example, instead of a full menu page of Pho, he offers only three; Chicken, Beef and Oxtail.

More than one patron told me the Oxtail Pho is a must have. Not many restaurants offer it and Chef Perry's version is redolent with cinnamon bark, star anise, cloves and other spices. If you like hot, crunchy and delicious, order the Imperial rolls. Chef Perry makes his own shallot oil to cook and season the rolls. You then wrap a piece in a lettuce leaf, add some mint, some rice noodles dipped in fish sauce, then you roll it up and eat it.
