Allentown, Pa. (WTXF) An indecent assault is alleged to have happened in an exam room here at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown.
The Lehigh County District Attorney Wednesday announced charges against 43-year-old Dr. Jarret Royce Patton who is a pediatrician.
According to the D.A.'s news release, the affidavit of probable cause was based on the investigation and information from witnesses and the victim. The D.A. says the victim brought her child to the hospital for a scheduled visit with Dr. Patton on February 25th. The D.A. states, "Dr. Patton began looking at her child and straddled over the woman's legs and rubbed against her multiple times.
When the woman attempted to move away, the 6'5", 230lb Patton positioned himself to continue the action throughout the visit. The D.A. also says Dr. Patton reached behind the victim to get a piece of equipment while rubbing her back at the same time.
Patton's attorney said the matter could've been a misunderstanding. The lawyer said the woman had to hold her infant during the exam, making it "difficult" for Patton to examine the child "without some kind of contact" with the woman.
No one answered the door at Dr. Patton's Exeter home when we stopped by Wednesday evening. Officials at the Lehigh County Central Booking Center say he was released around 4:30 after being arraigned on the charges.
The Lehigh Valley Health Network released this statement: We take the charges very seriously. At LVHN, our first priority is the care and safety of our patients. When we became aware of the allegation, we placed Dr. Patton on leave and removed him from all administrative and clinical responsibilities so the police could conduct an investigation. We cooperated fully with the police and gave them full access to our employees and records. We are not able to provide more details out of respect for the integrity of the legal process and individuals involved.
