State legislature considers bill to eliminate plastic straws in restaurants
(FOX 11) - Plastic straws at restaurants may go the way of the plastic shopping bag.
A bill just passed by the California Assembly would require dine-in restaurants to stop providing plastic straws unless a customer requests one.
It now goes to the state senate.
Assemblyman Ian Calderon is one of the co-sponsors.
He says plastic straws contribute to the buildup of trash in the oceans.
And he calls the bill a small step in trying to alleviate that problem.
But assemblyman matthew harper who opposed the bill, says it makes it harder for restaurants to do business in California
