PERSONAL THOUGHTS: San Bernardino attack an 'act of terrorism'

PERSONAL THOUGHTS: As I sit here at the Command Post a lot of thoughts are running through my mind, but first and foremost is that I wasn't surprised when the FBI said the San Bernardino Mass Murders were now being investigated as an "act of terrorism". From first word that the FBI was on site, in the aftermath of the massacre, the hint this was going to turn into a case of terrorism was in the air.

Every time we would talk with David Bowdich, the Asst. Dir. of the LA Office of the FBI, he would say how they were not at a point to call this a case of terrorism. They would "follow wherever the path leads them," he would say. The path led right to where many of us thought it would and now what has happened here is being described as the worst act of terrorism on U.S. soil since 9/11. The Boston bombing was bad, but in that one there were three people killed. Here it was 14.

In Boston, there were over 200 injured. Here it was 21. Julie Haener, on KTVU in Oakland, asked me during one of my FOX live shots the other day, how this incident ranked since I have covered so many big stories over the years. It is hard to rank these things. After all, there are degrees of "bad," but whether 'terrible' or 'awful', bad it bad.

Columbine... I was there... it was bad. The Chatsworth train wreck... I was there... it was bad. The Northridge quake... I was at ground zero... it was bad. What happened here in San Bernardino was a massacre. It is bad... very bad!
