WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (FOX 11)
Jonathan Cowley has worn different prosthetic limbs since he lost his hand to cancer. He says, none have been as cool as this one.
Jonathan says with a smile, "My son likes to say, 'My Dad’s a transformer'."
It is pretty cool! The Touch Bionics I-Limb Quantum hand has surface electrodes that pick up the ENG signals that our muscles produce when they contract.
Jonathan is able to cut an apple, peel a banana, have a drink, even shake hands with his artificial limb. He says, "It feels more a part of me, more connected. As you can see, when I move my arm, it moves with me and it gives me a lot more flexibility.
In the past, I could barely move my arm above my head. Now, I can move my hand right behind my head."
All of that, is made possible because of the design of the socket, which is a specialty of Biodesigns in Westlake Village.
