Re-uniting with a young man from foster care

- Tyraughn Barnett is example of overcoming the odds and finding family outside the norm.

He was once in foster care and on Fox 11's Wednesday's Child segment.

The last time I saw Tyraughn was eleven years ago. He and his brother Marlin were profiled on our Wednesday's Child showcasing children in foster care in need of forever families. This year, Tyraughn found me on a social network site  and we fast became real friends on Facebook.https://www.facebook.com/ChristineDevineTVNewsAnchor/?fref=ts

Tyraughn is now 24 years old and I was saddened to hear his heartbreaking journey through foster care. He says he was in 27 foster homes, 16 elementary schools and four high schools. He says an adoption was in the works but was disrupted and never happened.

Tyraughn did however remain in contact with that family and considers that home. The mother is a woman who worked at his group home.

Tyraughn is also telling his story in a documentary called "We Gotta Get Outta Here" with filmmaker Jen Arake. It's the story of the struggles of six kids from foster care. Arake is hoping people will see the film and volunteer to help at least one child from the foster care system. Arake has befriended Ty to the point he also calls her family "family." He traveled with her back home to Canada for Christmas.

Ty volunteers with other kids in foster care. He has recently been in contact with his birth family too.
